Password Protect PDF Locally
Add a password requirement to a finished PDF packet before download, without uploading the source document.
Local processing boundary
The password-protected copy is created locally and exposed only as a browser Blob download.
Free basics do not require an account and exported PDFs are not watermarked. Larger local packets and batch workflows may require the one-time Local License and still depend on browser limits.
How it works locally
- Open or build a PDF packet in the browser workspace.
- Enable password protection, enter and confirm a 12-character or longer password, then export.
- Download the protected PDF after local qpdf verification confirms it no longer opens without a password.
Good for
- Shared form packets
- Routine document handoff
- Lightweight password-gated PDFs
- Local packet exports
Limits to know
- PrivateLocalPDF cannot recover forgotten passwords.
- This protects the downloaded export; it does not lock the browser workspace or redact document content.
- Opening already password-protected source PDFs is a separate unsupported import flow.
